P&O? US, TOO

Dear WoC,

I read with interest the letter in your Autumn issue from Elaine Lloyd. I travelled with my wife and another couple on a two-week cruise in the Western Mediterranean on Oceana in August and reading Elaine’s letter reminded me of our experience, which was much the same as hers. Much of the crew were indifferent most of the time and were well trained in their poor response to any complaint.

We have cruised with P&O in the past and found Victoria and Oceana both very good and left with happy memories. So, what has happened to Oceana? I made an appointment to see the Executive Purser to make my complaints known, one of which was the ship was now run more on the lines of a Butlins Holiday Camp. He informed me P&O had made the decision to downgrade both Oceana as well as Ventura in the hope of attracting a different class of passenger. Well, it worked, but not for me.

We shall never travel with P&O again and our friends (who were first-time cruisers) have stated they have been put off cruising forever. What a shame when there are some excellent cruise lines who give excellent service at all times.
