Silversea improves net connectivity on its fleet

Silversea Cruises is boosting broadband capacity on its eight-ship fleet to enhance the ability of customers to stay in touch while cruising.

With a growing number of passengers bringing their own internet-enabled-devices onboard, the company has renewed and extended its relationship with MTN Communications, which provides communications and content services for maritime and remote locations. The deal, which covers its latest ships, Silver Discoverer and Silver Galapagos will optimise Wi-Fi on each vessel with the latest technology to further enable support of video streaming and other guest services. These upgrades support expanded broadcast, data and voice services on the Silversea fleet.

Jason Cohn, director of global IT infrastructure, Silversea, said: “It is critical to deliver reliable communications and content everywhere at a level akin to a land-based resort. We are especially excited about the range of communications services on our two latest ships. Cruising these rarely-visited locales not only requires mission-critical connectivity, but a unique opportunity to show friends and family the highlights along such extraordinary journeys.”

Silversea’s enhanced connectivity infrastructure will enable new communications offerings such as enhanced internet access to phone calls and broadcast capabilities. The company has worked with MTN for nine years.
