US cruise line Royal Caribbean International has an impressive history and global reputation. The cruise line is famed for its fleet of mega-ships, including the 3,100-passenger Voyager-class ships, which were once the largest cruise ships in the world, until Royal Caribbean debuted the larger Freedom class and subsequently the Oasis class. Always one to innovate, the cruise line ordered a sixth Oasis-class ship in 2019, while the first two – Oasis and Allure – are receiving upgrades to bring them up to the standard of younger sisters Harmony and Symphony. Royal’s first Quantum Ultra-class ship, Spectrum of the Seas, sailed to China in 2019. Its successor, Odyssey of the Seas, was due to debut in Florida 2019, but has been postponed until April 2021 due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. When she launches, the 4,198-passenger vessel will sail Eastern Mediterranean itineraries out of Rome and will be the third-largest class of cruise ships in the world, featuring exciting facilities such as SeaPlex, the largest indoor activity space at sea, and a RipCord skydiving simulator. Royal Caribbean also has three 5,000-passenger LNG-powered Icon-class ships on order, which are set for delivery from 2022.
