THE GLAM FACTOR
We cruise fans love a chance to get the sequins out, and it’s been a particularly sparkly month here at World of Cruising. First I was invited to the naming ceremony of MSC Bellissima in Southampton, presided over by the ever glamorous Sophia Loren (left). See page 62 for my special report on this amazing new ship, and her memorable (if rain-drenched) christening.
Next came the night of the annual Wave Awards. This celebration of all that’s best in cruising is our version of the Oscars – with the difference that the public gets a big say in the result. More than 68,000 of you cast your votes, so a big thank-you to everyone who got involved (turn to page 38 to find out which cruise lines and destinations scooped the prizes).
Talking of readers, I’m delighted to introduce two new regular pages, both inspired by the amazing adventures you have on your travels.
Our Big Experience feature debuts on page 20, with waterfall-chasing in Australia, and our Real Life Cruiser on page 86 is Joy Howe, a wonderful lady who has notched up more than 100 trips with Saga.
Which reminds me, the magazine you’re holding in your hand is the 100th issue of World of Cruising. Sequins – and bubbles – all round!
