September may be the ninth month in the calendar but it always feels like the start of the year to me. That back-to-school feeling never really leaves us, does it? With a new wardrobe, sharpened pencils and lots to look forward to, autumn really is my favourite time of year.
In the spirit of new beginnings, we’ve been busy updating World of Cruising too. As well as a fresh, modern look, we’ve added some brand new features – Ship of the Month, Port Guide, Cabin of the Month and – my favourite – Cruise Snapshots, where you get your chance to see your fabulous cruise photos and memories published in the magazine.
Cruising is not just about the ship, it’s also about where the journey takes you, and if a Caribbean cruise has always been your dream, turn to page 56 for Heidi Fuller-Love’s report on the best cruises and islands in this ever-popular destination. If cities are more your thing, don’t miss our insider guides to Paris and St Petersburg, on pages 76 and 86.
Once you’ve decided where you’ll be heading, you’ll need to think about who to take. As for many of you, I’m sure, my latest cruise was a family affair. This summer I took a trip on the Douro with my mum, Ena, on the new Viking Helgrim. With only 106 passengers on board, we had a blast, met loads of new friends, visited some of the most unexplored parts of Portugal and, best of all, had lots of mum-and-daughter fun.
Like us, I’m sure you’ve got the travel bug, so please send us your favourite cruise pics via facebook (#worldofcruisinggram). Happy cruising, and I hope you enjoy the new look issue.
