Johann Strauss, Northern Europe
1
This was a waterways cruise from Amsterdam to Berlin. My wife and I have done Saga before (China) and river cruising before (a couple of times). The waterways were largely canals and in Northern Europe they are industrial highways and by definition canals follow flat land. What scenery there was was industrial, gravel pits, scrap metal sites and similar.
The towns where we stopped were for the most part closed. There wasn't much to see and even the shops were either closed or closing as we got there.
The Johannes Strauss is old and showing its age.
The crew and staff were excellent and could not have done more for the passengers. The cruise director was OK but Saga had not provided her with details of the itinerary, town maps etc so she had to cobble some together herself.
The food was of a high standard and the service was also excellent.
I gave my concerns to Saga when we got home by email and received a reply that they would be in touch. One message was left again telling us that they would be in touch. They were not. A couple of weeks later we received a refund of £150 on a holiday costing £6,000 for 9 days.
And I am a shareholder!
