For an offbeat stop along the Moselle, look no further. Often quieter than other ports, this town is known for its appealing Art Nouveau architecture, elegant wine cellars and the evocative ruins of its 14th-century castle. 

Wine lovers will be in their element at this port, framed by rolling vineyards and famed for its Schwarze Katz Riesling. Visit in June to catch the lively wine festival celebrating local viticulture. But even beyond grapes, Zell has plenty to offer, from strolling past half-timbered houses to admiring St Peter's Church, a treat for architecture fans.
