Wonderful holiday on the beautiful Azamara Quest. We chose Azamara because of the excellent reviews we had read when researching for a Cruise to celebrate our 47th Wedding Anniversary and my 70th Birthday and we were nit disappointed. The ship was beautiful and importantly there are no more than 700 passengers onboard on each cruise which definitely meant a less crowded, more intimate and relaxing experience. We chose a balcony cabin for the first time, and sitting on the balcony every day was a joy, whether at sea or in Port. The fact that it was a smaller ship meant it could dock adjacent to the Mediterranean Ports and the majority of time meant you were in the hub of the resort immediately. We chose the cruise as we were excited to explore the Islands of France, Spain and Italy, some we had visited previously over the yeaars
18 months since we have been on board Azamara and two years since we have been on board the Quest, but within minutes of embarking the Quest for an 8 night Croatia intensive cruise, we were greeted by several officers and welcomed back as family. You cant put a price on that. One of the major benefits of small ship cruising.
It was a smooth and speedy embarkation - we were on the ship within minutes of arriving at the terminal in Chioggia. It really felt like coming home.
We had a veranda cabin on deck 6 which was perfectly fine with plenty of storage space, a decent sized balcony and an adequate bathroom. We were also blessed with one of the best stateroom attendants we have ever had in the lovely Edgar.
All four Azamara ships are pretty much the same with guest services, and concierge on deck 4. The main discoveries restaurant is on deck 5, together with Atlas Bar, future cruise sales, shore excursions, the shops, Mosaic Cafe and the Cabaret Lounge. Deck 6, 7 and 8 are all staterooms. Deck 9 is where you will find Windows Cafe (buffet), The Sunset Bar, The Patio, the pool and hot tubs, the Pool Bar, Gym and spa. Deck 10 is the walking/jogging track, the Drawing Room, The Living Room and the two speciality restaurants - Aqualina and Prime C. There is also a table tennis table and dart board on this deck. Finally on deck 11 is a sun deck.
Despite this ship being at full capacity it never felt crowded and it was never a problem getting a seat wherever we wanted one.
We shared our dining options between Discoveries Restaurant and Windows Cafe Buffet. We never had a problem getting a seat in either venue, but we do like to dine early. We had a brilliant waiter in Discoveries Jhun - food was always hot, service was great and they were flexible with regard to our dietary requirements.
Another option for lunch is The Patio where we ate on a couple of days. They serve a selection of burgers, salads, onion rings, nachos etc. food was lovely but service was always slow.
The two speciality restaurants - Prime C and Aqualina were available at $35 dollars per head and proved popular with many of our fellow guests.
One of the things we loved about this trip was the free room service breakfast - there was a big variety of cooked and cold items to choose from and service was always cheerful and prompt.
With regard to the Spa, as regular readers of our reviews will know we feel the spas on American ships are horrendously overpriced so we dont use them. We didnt book any shore excursions for the same reason.
As for the entertainment, the ship has a band, a piano player, a disco, the usual shows, guest speakers and quizzes. We particularly loved the crew karaoke.
The things that Azamara are outstanding at are their Azamazing events - on this cruise they arranged a fabulous choir to perform in the local town square in Koper, Slovenia, and they also have their white night (we dress in black as we are rebels 😉😉) with entertainment, the officers cooking and a parade of all the crew. If you are lucky enough to be on a cruise with Ryszard Gusmann as Hotel Director, dont miss his crepes Suzette - they are legendary!!
Two other special things happened on this cruise one was the meeting of the four Azamara sisters who came together in Koper, this has only ever happened once before. Also on the cruise into Kotor, Montenegro there was an informative commentary and local food served, as well as coffee with rum liquer.
If we were going to be critical of Azamara at all it would be with regard to their internet, which is better than some but not as good as others. However if you are coming on holiday to switch off that would not be an issue for you.
In summary, we enjoyed our Azamara Quest cruise so much we decided to stay on. The reason for this is that all the staff on board have been welcoming, friendly and efficient. The officers are highly visible including the Captain and are always up for a chat.
We think that Ryszard the Hotel Director is the best on the seven seas, we have never seen a HD who is so hands on and engaged with his passengers. The same can also be said for David his Guest Relations Manager, and Tulita and Romz their team. Regular readers will know we often criticise guest relations but this cruise has proved that Azamara still have the best ! We have cruised many times over the last year but this cruise on the Azamara Quest has definitely been the best.
It certainly will not be 18 months before we sail with Azamara again !! Azamara make you feel valued and part of the family - something we really appreciate.
Great cruise cabins small. Food great service great.
Shore excursions good
Entertainment the group were excellent apart from a passenger who thought she could sing.
Other entertainment very mediocre
Very pricey holiday good but not value for money
We enjoyed our cruise onboard, the crew couldn't have been more obliging and charming. The ship itself is looking tired and the staterooms look as though they have been made up of different pieces of furniture from other ships, resulting in pieces which are too large for the and totally inappropriate for the size of the rooms. The balcony furniture is also too large for the small size of the balcony meaning it wasn't really suitable to spend a relaxing hour or two. The food onboard was good with daily selections and permanent dishes which we had to use a couple of times as there is a country theme every night which ie, Italian, Thai, Indian etc which weren't to our taste. The den, where the casino used to be is a lounge bar where people congregated at night after the shows for a nightcap. Some of the bars were not open in the evening but whether this was due to the amount of passengers (350+) I am not sure, but it did become rather tedious meeting in the same room each night. The shows are pretty dire and amateurish and not worth watching. The biggest disappointment was no Azamazing evening off the ship which we have always enjoyed on previous Azamara cruises. Instead they bought a small troupe onboard who performed a mime with a small amount of very poor flamenco. Not what we expect from Azamara. That said, the crew are superb and make the cruise the experience it should be and are a credit to the brand.
Azamara cruises are all inclusive as much food and drink as you want ! Unfortunately after the first day I realised getting drunk was easy as all the cocktails tasted so good but I felt terrible the next day and decided not to go so crazy again . As it was one of the first cruises after the Cov19 I thought the ship would be clean but it was not I could not see through my cabin window and had to show reception a tissue with the dirt on it . They moved me to another cabin it was one for disabled people nice and large but the floor was dangerous in the bathroom it was not screwed down tightly. I put a towel over the floor so as not to cut my feet . The food was lovely most of the time but the shore excursions where at least £150 . For me the worst thing was being told I was going to see Athens on a tour and included lunch going to the airport at 2.30 but there was no lunch and I was left at the airport at 12 and my flight home was 8 that evening.
Overall a very good cruise. Online & paperwork complicated due to Covid restrictions but I'm sure it could have been much simplified. However we were guided through finally, by 'phone, by a very competent member at Azamara with essential information without which we would not have been able to cruise. Organisation at customer services on board was excellent so disembarkation was made very simple. We would certainly book with Azamara again. I have not marked Shore excursions as we only had one stop in St. Thomas which was not on the original itinerary, as we should have stopped in Bermuda. As we had been to St. Thomas several times before, we did not want to take any of the excursions.
The ship was fantastic, and passenger numbers were low, which enabled the crew to provide immaculate service. The food was good in the main restaurant and the self-service restaurant (staff put the food on your plate). The entertainment was low key, but we enjoyed the two guest evenings. The White Night was ruined by the strong winds on deck. The wines provided as included in our package were not very good, especially the white wines. We had a standard balcony room. This was good, apart from the bathroom, which was tiny. The bedroom stewards were brilliant. We did two Azamara tours. The first, to Pompeii from Amalfi, was fantastic, with a very knowledgeable guide. The second, a panoramic tour above Dubrovnik, was not worth the $99 each. Overall I would recommend Azamara for people who want a quiet comfortable cruise where you will be looked after in sumptuous surroundings.v
Love cruising with Azamara and it was good to get back to cruising. The Caribbean was warm and inviting, Azamara looked after us well and we felt safe re Covid, also they don’t charge for lateral flow tests . Going again with them next month .
as my original cruise was cancelled could not do lift and shift this was the only cruise i could afford. i flew to rome a few days early did not start well as booked the wrong dates and ended up sleeping rough i got onboard no solo coordinator then i find i cannot sit with others for dinner spouilt the cruise for me so no more azamara for me. went to monaco not a nice place got a nasty cold and had to stay in cabin and order room service
