Oceania Cruises said the move follows extensive feedback from guests who value the calm, unhurried atmosphere onboard. Known for its destination-focused itineraries and culinary-led experiences, the line’s new policy is intended to reinforce those strengths.

Existing reservations made before 7 January 2026 that include travellers under 18 will still be honoured, meaning families who have already booked will not be affected by the change.

Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises, said the decision was driven by guest preference. “Our guests have consistently shared that the tranquil environment aboard our ships is one of the primary reasons they return time and time again.” He added, "By transitioning to an adults-only experience, we are enhancing the very essence of the Oceania Cruises journey – one defined by sophistication, serenity and discovery.”

The line said research consistently highlighted the importance of a serene onboard atmosphere, sophisticated service and a relaxed pace. The line believes these qualities resonate most strongly with mature, affluent travellers.

While Oceania Cruises has never positioned itself as a family cruise line, the policy change formalises an onboard experience that has long appealed to adult travellers, with no dedicated children’s facilities or family-focused entertainment programmes offered across the fleet.

Oceania Cruises operates a fleet of small luxury ships sailing globally, calling at more than 600 ports worldwide on itineraries ranging from seven days to extended voyages of several months. For more information, visit the Oceania Cruises website.
