Lovely ship, not enough crew, to many passengers. We will sail on the small ships from now on. Had to try the ship, after herein good reports. But that was in the pandemic time. All different know
We have been sailing since 2000 & mostly with P&O. We had sailed on lona in Nov 21 & thoroughly enjoyed her so thought we’d sail with her again. I’ll start with the positive, we never experienced a problem when booking dinner with the app & once again ate in every dining room. It was only on the last night we had slow’ service but that could have been down to the qty of tables the young man was serving. Food mediocre but enjoyable (qty has really shrunk). Paid to see Ray Quinn who was worth every penny, such a professional. Food in Limelight, superb (quality of how it used to be as standard with P&O). Entertainment otherwise, hit & miss, Yzzy as Paloma Faith, brilliant (acoustics in the Dome, terrible, same as Nov 21). Harriette Mullins in the Club House, very good & especially when singing to the little boy, Finlay (not a dry eye in the club). Headliners also good though we had seem some of the shows before. The acrobats (wish l could remember their name) were superb, especially the 1st show as we hadnt seen this before. Service in all entertainment venues very good. Only booked one excursion which really was a shuttle service to Las Americas in Teneriffe. We could always find seats in the Atrium & where we like to sit & people watch Beautiful spacious balcony cabin 15608 but now for the downside (i) we we’re placed below the Horizon buffett eatery - we heard every movement of trolleys from 5am - 1am (ii) the cabin balcony has an ‘overhang’ so we never had any sun on the balcony (l chose this cabin so l should have done more research before booking). l believe this applies to all of deck 15 & 16. Decks 8 & 9 (conservatory cabins) can be seen from everyone above & when walking on the deck (iii) Horizon buffet, well, what can l say, food very sparse in choice & frequently had to ask for containers to be refilled. This eatery has definitely gone down hill, the choice of cold meat was abysmal & never any cold mixed pasta dishes. All staff very busy & to the extent where they didn’t notice containers were empty. One person l’d like to give special mention to is a young lady called Hope who clears tables in the Horizon. Her smile lights up the venue, always smiling & pleasant - she should be the ‘face’ of P&O. Finally, we make the most of sea days by visiting the cinema. We queued for 35 mins to see Elvis & didnt get a seat so the next time we queued for 45 mins & got the last 2 seats. Not once did we have to queue for other films so why P&O didnt show this film (like some others) in the theatre beggars belief or had a member of staff handing out seat tickets so people then knew not to wait hoping for a seat. overall would l sail on her again. Oh yes.
Never go on p and o again. Overall the ship was good but dining was a nightmare. Booked for 5.30 got seated a 7pm. Still sitting there at 10pm. Christmas dinner was more like a school dinner. The waiters were run off their feet. Absolutely appalling. We never got to a specialty restaurant as always fully booked. Actually they weren’t just short of staff. Entertainment was apparently all booked up before boarding the ship and then in reality people didn’t turn up so theatres were half empty. Should be first come, first served. The app was useless. P and O really need to up their game as a lot of people have said the Christmas cruise was a shambles. It’s so frustrating as people pay good money and look forward to their holiday and are then let down.
Fabulous ship, plenty of dining options including fish and chips at the quays. Tried specially restaurants which are excellent and varied. Service excellent and there was a great choice of entertainment
Having been on Iona during COVID. We were keen to see if we felt more crowded. Apart from having to arrive at shows early to get a seat, the answer was no. The ship, crew, food and cabin were all first rate, no complaints at all. Great holiday.
We were on Iona twice last year, an excellent ship, can't fault our time on board.
A good cruise, had an upgraded cabin don’t want to see what I was upgraded from maybe a lifeboat. P & O need to get things right like prices in bar areas charging different prices etc etc. very easy to get on and off that’s a plus. Captain needs lessons into how to speak he sounded like a school teacher at times never once saw him at formal nights.
Iona is a huge ship so it takes some time to get used to being with up to 5,000 other guests.
The weather was excellent for January/February which helped to make the stops at seven ports extremely pleasant. The food on board was very good and dining arrangements trouble free.
The entertainment on board was variable - the singers were not all adapted to the typical age of the guests. Also, the acoustics in the glass dome make it hard work for any singer to be heard with any clarity. But Sam Bailey was exceptionally good.
The P&O app which was meant to be used to book events was problematic - even the staff seemed to struggle to use it effectively.
Embarkation and disembarkation worked smoothly.
The staff were friendly and generally efficient.
Christmas markets cruise. Ship is large but flows reasonably well and despite being near capacity never really felt crowded. Embarkation and disembarkation excellent. Main self service restaurant very limited selection especially in evening. Main dining rooms reasonable choice could not get in to speciality restaurants as fully booked before boarding boarding if open at all. Would go on her again but not first choice
We were really impressed with the Iona. It's one of the most modern cruise ships we've been on.
i would say this 12 night cruise was best value for money. Given a chance I will do it again
Last April we went to Norwegian fjord .Fantastic ship amazing scenery.
After a frustrating time trying to download the ships app so we could book meal times etc
we settled down to enjoying the cruise. Staff so polite and helpful and ship fabulous. Looking forward to our next p and o cruise.
