Introducing Legend of the Seas

Legend of the Seas is set to debut in July 2026, following on from the first two ships in the Icon Class, Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas. The Icon Class is one of Royal Caribbean's most ambitious concepts to date, combining resort-style attractions, large-scale entertainment and a broad mix of dining and accommodation options.

The ship will carry 5,610 guests at double occupancy, supported by a crew of over 2,000, and remains true to Royal Caribbean's ethos of offering a vast choice of onboard venues.

Legend of the Seas continues the approach of dividing the ship into eight distinct neighbourhoods, each designed around a different cruising experience, from family-focused zones to quieter adult-only escapes.

Legend of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's fourth ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), a cleaner marine fuel. The ship features environmental innovations, including waste heat recovery systems and shore power connectivity.

Is there really a dog onboard?

Yes, there really is a dog on board. Each Icon Class ship has its own Chief Dog Officer, a golden retriever who lives on the ship and turns up at events and meet-and-greets throughout the sailing. Legend of the Seas has Skipper, who follows in the paw prints of Rover on Icon of the Seas and Sailor on Star of the Seas. It’s a bit of fun rather than a working role, but guests can expect to spot the pup around the ship and grab a photo. Here’s our snap.

Can you access Disney plus in your cabin on Legend of the Seas?

For the time being, you can only stream videos from YouTube or Prime Video. Disney+ is not available. And you'll need an internet package to use that service. I tried to use the screen mirroring function on my phone to watch Netflix and Disney+, too, but couldn't make it work. There is, however, a decent selection of free videos on demand.

Can you watch the World Cup on Legend of the Seas?

Yes, you can. Royal Caribbean International has a longstanding relationship with the world of football. It even named Lionel Messi the godfather of Icon of the Seas and this year, it’s officially partnered with the FIFA World Cup 2026 Miami Host Committee.

On Legend of the Seas, you can watch games in your stateroom and catch select matches in venues across the ship, notably Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade and Casino Royale.

Why doesn’t it have deck 13? On the deck plan, it looks like it goes straight from 12 to 14.

That's not uncommon. Some cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean International, omit the 13th deck. Similarly, many hotels go directly from floor 12 to 14, and some airlines omit row 13. The reason is that enough travellers are uncomfortable being assigned stateroom 13-something that it affects booking patterns. Removing the number sidesteps complaints and potential rebooking requests before they arise.

Is there a teens club or only one for younger kids?

Legend of the Seas has a dedicated teens-only space as well as a kids’ club. On top of Adventure Ocean, a programme for kids aged three to 12, there’s Social020, an exclusive hangout for teens aged 13-17. Here, they have the opportunity to join pre-planned events or simply hang out with guests their own age.

Plus, there’s plenty more to keep all ages entertained, from the water park and surf simulator to laser tag and the largest ice rink at sea.

Is Legend of the Seas part of Icon Class? Is there anything new or different on it vs Icon and Star?

Yes, Legend of the Seas is the third Icon Class ship, following Icon of the Seas which debuted in 2024 and Star of the Seas which started sailing in 2025. The three ships are very similar, though a few venues set them apart. For example, Legend of the Seas is the only Icon Class ship to include Royal Railway, a Silk Road themed restaurant.

The clearest difference is where Legend sails. Icon and Star of the Seas both launched from Florida to serve the Caribbean, while Legend will spend its first season in Europe. It’s then set to operate on a seasonal basis, summering in the Med and wintering in the Caribbean.
