Great service being chauffeured to the ship, so easy to board and find our comfortable cabin. Lovely caring and such helpful crew members all over the ship. The food was superb every meal. The destinations were beautiful and so clean and everyone was very welcoming. The entertainments were brilliant.
We loved being able to walk everywhere though we did once or twice use the lifts. It was a great first time experience and we do look forward to next year and another trip.
Fulfilled a long- held wish to see the Dutch bulb fields in all their splendour. The weather was kind and daily trips onshore took us to a variety of interesting and delightful sites. Saga took great care of us. The cabins were comfortable and well cared for, the food plentiful and delicious and other cruisers pleasant. A bad time at the departure airport, with a 9-hour delay, but Saga still rescued us from a different airport, once back in the UK and ferried us home
My wife and I sailed on the Spirit Of Discovery for a cruise to Ireland on the 4th of April 2023. The Spirit Of Discovery is an absolutely beautiful ship with the most attentive, kind and nice crew of any ship my wife and I have sailed on previously. Nothing is too much trouble. It really is service with a true smile. The quality of the food onboard is simply outstanding. The Grand Dining Room has magnificent furnishings and is a wonderful place to dine. An alternative is The Grill restaurant which allows you to choose from an absolutely massive selection of different dishes. There are three speciality restaurants, East To West, an Asian restaurant, which serves incredibly well prepared flavoursome dishes, Coast To Coast, a seafood restaurant with a fabulous menu and The Club, a steakhouse restaurant with tremendous cuts of meat. You can also eat in The Lido which serves lovely burgers, hot dogs, fish & chips etc... The food in every restaurant was of very high quality and cooked to perfection every time. Our cruise started with being collected by an incredibly smartly dressed chauffeur in an executive Mercedes car. He was extremely polite and nice, he gave us bottled water, sweets and fruit and when we stopped at the services offered to buy us coffee. What my wife and I found really wonderful with the Spirit Of Discovery is that all the following elements are included in Saga's price : return chauffeur service, all inclusive drinks package including premium spirits, every restaurant onboard including the speciality restaurants, 24 hour room service, WiFi, certain excursions, every cabin has a balcony and travel insurance. These inclusions make Saga such absolutely fantastic value for money. On almost all other cruise lines all these elements are chargeable as extras. We had two very informative included excursions, one in Dublin and another in Belfast. Days at sea were filled with craft classes, a book club, classical concerts, art classes, guest speakers and much much more. There is a superb spa with a hydrotherapy pool which we used every day. The power jets were wonderfully relaxing. The evening entertainment was first class and very varied. Neither my wife or I could find anything negative about the whole cruise. In fact, while onboard we booked another Saga cruise. Saga are definitely our cruise line from now on. Thank you Saga for a fantastic experience.
Northern Lights and Northern Norway Cruise. Bad weather forced itinerary change but everything was done to ensure that the cruise was an enjoyable experience with excursions re-arranged at very short notice to ensure the cruise was memorable for all the right reasons.
Itinerary had to be changed twice due to adverse weather conditions and a passenger being medivacced by helicopter. The company excelled itself in reorganising ports and excursions at very short notice. An excellent experience.
Only one disappointment - one of the ship's engines broke down so that our day visit to Cadiz was curtailed. Otherwise the cruise was excellent in every way,
The cruise started at our front door, this was our second trip with Saga after trying a sample five day cruise the year before. We were picked by a lovely driver who was very helpful and polite,on arriving at the ship embarkation was fast and efficient, the cabin was brilliant, all balconies on Saga ships, the cruise was all inclusive,wi fi tips, four included excursions and all drinks. The çrew were brilliant with nothing too much trouble. Disembarkation was extremely good with again being met by a driver who took our luggage for us to his lovely limousine for our trip back to Wales, great cruise ,they are a bit pricey but if you want pampering from start to finish this is the way to do it.Cant wait for next time.
We are regular cruisers but found that this cruise is the ‘one to beat’. We are very much looking forward to sailing with the sister ship in Oct/Nov 2023.
this was our second cruise with Saga, first was a trial cruise to the netherlands which we enjoyed so much we couldnt wait to book another.
our second cruise was the canaries and again did not disappoint from start ,picked up in a smart BMW with a very nice driver,to our return to South Wales by Tesla with again a gentleman driver.everything in between was perfect, food ,entertainment and the most attentive staff we have ever experienced on any cruise line.
Our first time with Saga, I doubt it will be our last!. The Spirit of Discovery is a beautiful, nearly new ship, purpose built for the senior British market. It's not as large as the normal cruise ships we use, but there is plenty of space on deck, no worry about obtaining a sunbed, and good size staterooms, all with a nice balcony and decent size en-suite.
The check-in and out procedure was managed very well on shore, although we were delayed disembarking due to missing the tide at Dover after coming through a force 7 gale in the North Sea.
The all-inclusive cost covers drinks, gratuities, wi-fi, a couple of excursions per week, and dining in all the restaurants, use of the spa facilities, plus the normal Saga pick-up and home drop-off.
These cruises are'nt cheap, but the service is very good, the dining excellent, and they excel in looking after seniors and solo cruisers.
The cons: price - as above. Staff not always understanding the need to ensure de-caf drinks are de-caf (medical needs), full details of included excursions not known on board (I have a phobia of heights and was caught out which caused a full-on panic attack), and the entertainment team was very small and not as good as elsewhere.
However, I would not hesitate to recommending this cruise line if you can afford it, and wish to avoid airport hassle :)
First time with Saga. I went to Greenland. Impressed with ship. Everything spotless, staff friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. As a single traveller I had large balcony cabin ( not the usual sub standard cabin tucked at far end of a ship) and there was plenty of activity for single people.
My only complaint was the coffee!
Impeccable service alongside a beautiful ship with food and drink beyond our wildest expectations. The only downside were the excursions and knowledge of the Explore Ashore team. We felt they did not know enough about the ports of call for independent travel.
Truly all inclusive so don't be put off by the headline price. Fabulous in every way except the Explore Ashore Team who need to up their game. They were great for booking their tours but poor on advice for independent travel ashore.
Seven night cruise to Norway, first sea cruise with SAGA, looked after and spoilt from being picked up at home and dropped back at home.
