Once a pivotal market town on the banks of the Saigon River, Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, has blossomed into a high-energy metropolis, merging tradition with modernity. Its tropical climate enhances the lush, green expanses scattered throughout the city, perfect for those who seek respite within vibrant urban confines. The citys streets, a labyrinth of local food vendors, French colonial architecture, and bustling markets, offer an authentic snapshot of Vietnamese life. Intriguingly, its also the motorbike capital of the world, with over 8 million bikes weaving through the citys veins.

Cambodia’s capital sits at the meeting point of the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers. Cruise ships dock close to the Royal Palace, making it easy to explore the heart of Phnom Penh on foot or by tuk-tuk. At its core is the palace complex, home to the Silver Pagoda and murals depicting Cambodian legends. Nearby, the National Museum houses some of the finest Khmer sculptures in the world, including pieces from Angkor Wat.Phnom Penh is a city still grappling with its past. Most cruise itineraries include visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields at Choeung Ek, sites that provide context on Cambodia’s recent history under the Khmer Rouge. Back in town, you'll discover riverside cafés, markets, rooftop bars and street food stalls.

Kampong Cham is one of Cambodia’s largest provincial cities, but it still feels relaxed. Sitting on the Mekong’s eastern bank, it blends colonial remnants and modern Khmer culture. Cruise excursions often visit Wat Nokor, a striking 11th-century temple. Not far off is the French-era bamboo bridge (rebuilt seasonally, depending on the river level), which once connected the town to nearby Koh Pen island.The town itself has tree-lined boulevards and crumbling French buildings dating back to the time the city served as a trading hub. Markets sell tropical produce and snacks, while cafes spill onto pavements in the evening. Though not a major tourist destination, Kampong Cham serves as a gateway to the rural east and is often a final or first port on Mekong river cruises.

What's fantastic trip up the River Seine with Riviera last August.We went on the Gastronomy Seine tour which did not disappoint with food tastings of cheese, wines, ciders, cakes and meats from the Normandy region at our various stops. The variety of trips was excellent from Rouen and its majestic cathedral, the beauty of Monets Garden, the thought provoking DDay landings and WWII cemetery at Bayeux along with school history dream of seeing the Bayeux Tapestry. The food was excellent, the staff helpful and cheerful and we enjoyed the inclusive drinks package and our spacious room with picture window to watch the world go past.

A Rhine river cruise to the Christmas markets. Riviera take the strain out of travelling then you step aboard and drop all your cares. The ships are extremely comfortable and the service efficient but not intrusive. The cabins are basically hotel rooms that float! So nice to lie in bed and watch Germany pass by. The food was of a very high standard, well presented and the accompanying wines and drinks were fantastic.Riviera can always be trusted to organise excursions well and their tour managers are always prepared to go that extra mile to ensure your trip is perfect! Give them a try.

I'm partly disabled, but the crew was fantastic, and had help where I needed it, instantly. This was my third time with Rivera Travel and I've loved everyone, looking forward to next year's cruise with Rivera Travel on the Rhine to Switzerland. You just unpack your case the once, and your clothes and bedroom go with you to see many different places, it's lovely waking up to a new view from your room. so relaxing. The ship was lovely a clean, and the food was to die for, no disappointment at all. By the second day, the crew could remember your name, even what drinks you liked to drink, nothing was too much bother. Lovely friendly atmosphere, I'm so pleased I chose to travel with Rivera Travel, looking forward to next year. See you soon, Margaret
