Combined rail-and-sail holidays continue to resonate with travellers seeking seamless, scenic journeys, freedom from logistical hassle and rich cultural immersion.
The York-based company Great Rail Journeys offers over 250 escorted rail holidays across more than 40 countries, with routes such as the Scottish Highlands aboard the Jacobite steam train and India’s Golden Triangle on the luxurious Maharaja’s Express.
From 2027, it will launch a partnership with Azamara, debuting a new Tour & Ocean Cruise collection. These freshly unveiled itineraries will blend land-based exploration, during which guests are guided by an expert tour manager, with a luxury ocean cruise aboard one of Azamara’s boutique ships.
Dave Riley, CEO at Great Rail Journeys, said: “We’re delighted to announce our new range of Tour & Ocean Cruise holidays, which builds on our popular rail and river cruise offering. We’re always looking for new ways to help our customers create lifelong memories, and these combined itineraries offer an unforgettable way to see the world by land and sea.”
“Our signature rail tours are complemented by the luxury of ocean cruising, allowing customers to enjoy the freedom of an expertly guided tour with the style, comfort and charm of an Azamara cruise – with every detail taken care of.”

Initial itineraries in the brand-new collection will include journeys to Europe and North America, such as:
- A Glacier Express tour paired with an Italy, France and Spain cruise
- A Lake Garda tour paired with a Venice, Sicily and Amalfi Coast cruise
- A tour of Tuscany paired with a cruise to Italy, France and Spain
- An iconic Spain tour paired with an Italy, Croatia and Slovenia cruise
- A Rocky Mountaineer tour paired with an Icy Strait and Ketchikan cruise
Guests who book before December 15th, 2025, can enjoy £1,000 off upgrades to a Veranda, Veranda Plus or Continental Suite. See the Great Rail Journeys website for full terms and conditions.
