Most Relaxing holiday we've ever had
As first time cruisers this was perfect our 16 yr old has Adhd/Autism so the smaller ships perfect as mostly an older crowd she doesn't cope will with loud screaming so this was better suited for us felt nothing for younger ones on board that's my only negative thing she usually just chilled in cabin after show. But we had a fantastic time and looking to book another cruise in 2027.

Just spent 5 days on the beautiful Balmoral going down the south coast of the uk to the Scilly Islands and Falmouth, best cruise ship and company ever, staff are amazing and nothing to much trouble. The cabin was kept clean and tidy but the cabin staff and the entertainment team just fabulous. Never had a bad cruise with Fred.

The cruise appealed to me as a shipping enthusiast (not so much for my wife although she still enjoyed the cruise) as it went through the Kiel Canal twice (once at night) and I went on an excursion around the restricted container terminal at Hamburg. I went on another excursion to Papenburg from Bremen for a tour of the Weber-Werft shipyard where they build cruise ships, which was very interesting but I thought the cost of £145 was extortionate as a local tour was €15 so the extra for the coach was far too much. Some good talks on board about the Kiel Canal. We visited Kiel for the first time and found the Tourist Information Office difficult to find - we really missed the excellent port plans that Fred Olsen used to do, which were better than any other cruise line. We were disappointed that we had two single beds which were at right angles and could not be put together, and also disappointed at the amount of engine noise and vibration in our aft cabin on Deck 5 - an indication of the age of the ship! However the staff were brilliant as always. We thought that the meals were below in both quality and quantity compared with what we have had before on Fred Olsen. Overall, we enjoyed the cruise.

We have travelled on the Balmoral before and we booked the same "superior suite". We were a bit disappointed in the service this time, especially when comparing the cost of the suite to an ocean view cabin, it was not as good as the last time we went on the Balmoral and the food wasn't such good quality. Trying to get a drink in the self service cafe (which we used only once as it was so poor) was very slow indeed, the staff seemed rushed off their feet and the restaurant manager just stood around doing nothing! The staff in the Avon restaurant were very attentive but again the standard of the food has declined. Overall we had a nice time, but compares very poorly against the Princess Cruise ships we have also been on. The difference in standard between the suites on Balmoral and the Enchanted Princess is vast.
