A complete shambles from start to finish, glad to get off the ship
Outstanding crew, stewards, waiters, chefs, entertainers, in fact, every crew member we came in contact with was polite and charming. The food in The Quays was fab and fast. The Pearl was our favourite for the evening meal, the staff were so lovely. The captain's announcements were very witty too.
Delicious, plentiful food. Very clean & efficient throughout. We loved every minute of this wonderful cruise and cannot find fault in any way.
Our first but hopefully not last cruise.
We had a fantastic time sailing to the Norwegian Fjords
Ship was fantastic, crew amazing, food fabulous, Entertainment brilliant …
We have booked 2 more cruise Iona 2023 and Arvia 2024
7 nights cruising the Norwegian Fjords on the P&O ship Iona. Our first full cruise (we did a mini cruise on Britannia last year) and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had booked an aft Deluxe Balcony Cabin and loved the views of the fjords from the balcony. We dined in the the two main Freedom Restaurants, Coral & Pearl, where both the food and service was very good. Chilled out in the Atrium and the Crows Nest. Overall, a very enjoyable first cruise.
Ship is huge, but lacking in outdoor seating. Elderly people would get up and bag the sunloungers at 6am and keep their towels on there all day. Staff didn’t enforce the removal of towels. A fight broke out over sunloungers and a woman got one thrown at her. Otherwise food was really great, and speciality restaurants fab. The entertainment a bit average. Cabins nice but very small (balcony cabin). Didn’t do drinks package as many of the branded drinks out of stock. Drinks choice not that great, a bit Wetherspoonish
Sailed on 29th January. covid restrictions still in place pre cruise testing organised by P&O went smoothly and were on board and in our cabin within one hour. No issue with having cabin services once a day although heard others complain about not having evening turn down. We were most impressed by the choice of food in the olive grove and the waiting staff were very attentive. For breakfast and evening meal we mainly dined in the Pearl restaurant and had the same table allocated each time this meant by the end of the cruise we had a good rapport with the waiters. The booking app worked well for us. Wearing a mask when walking around the ship and on trips was no problem and everyone appeared to comply. Only downside of cruise was missing Cadiz for operational reasons two days in Lisbon instead. The Captains daily message at 6pm was informative and helpful as well as seeing him around the ship.during the day. Iona may be a big ship but due to the different venues there are plenty of quiet areas
Beautiful, immaculate ship, lots is space for wheelchair access
Varied entertainment, theatre shows very good however repeated over 2 nights
Other entertainment was good, lots of quality musicians, groups could have been better.
Main restaurant’s lots of variety, excellent service, no individual butter pats, choice of one roll or piece of bread, table covers not changed if still clean, buffet very good apart from night time where it was basically leftovers reheated
Statements only serviced once a day, no evening fold down or towel change. Onboard shopping lacks excitement and offers, Drinks, similar pricing to other lines, good variety, coffee included, terrible, usual fruit juices etc available at breakfast. No ice available
Ship’s captain’s daily talk very informative and hilarious
Good variety of tours however a little expensive
Mask wearing compulsory
A truelly wonderful break to Norway on the Iona ...Stavanger, Olsen, Alesund and Haugesund, were on the itinery and each offered incredible scenery and a great deal of things to do and see...the locals were friendly , they seemed delighted to see us visiting and the weather was delightfully sunny and warm .
Aboard the Iona Captain Wesley Dunlop kept us informed and entertained and the crew were efficient and friendly ...We are saving up to go again as soon ss we can ...loved it
Wow! What a beautiful ship.
Loads of space, public areas, restaurants, bars and the most hot tubs I've seen on any cruise ship.
It's a while since we have been with P&O and to be honest they exceeded expectations.
The dining system of being unable to pre booked worked out brilliantly with a choice of dining rooms and going at a time to suit us was perfect and we didn't have to wait at all.
The entertainment was better than expected, The music was to our taste and the comedians were funny! There were problems with the acrobatic act but there were plenty of other options that evening.
Weather was hit and miss but we still had an amazing comfortable cruise with some delicious food and cocktails.
We did our own thing on shore and did not take an excursion but the choice of destinations was excellent and they were very accessible.
We would definitely choice Iona again.
The whole ship creaks badly when I’m windy and high wave conditions. There is no atmosphere on board as it’s so large. The dome’s acoustics are so bad it’s impossible to hear the entertainers muffled speakers for echoes. The dance floor is so small it’s a joke for a large ship. Loud music plays in the shopping mall even when it’s closed. Christmas dinner was cold. Gangways to shore were shared for both directions and disabled customers who decided after getting off that the destination was too far from town and return to the ship straight away made life hell for those who were leaving. One steep shore gangway for all ?? Ridiculous. After having taken a so so cruise previously with P&O, we reluctantly booked this one as it was the only Christmas cruise we fancied, but would never use them again. Smaller is bigger as far as cruising is concerned.
