No notice of cancellation of Holyhead. Went to Belfast instead. Cruise Services didn't have any explanation.
A wonderful break in March to La Corunna, Malaga, Cadiz, Cartagena and Lisbon, Cunard is well up there in the 'getting back to normal' stakes , the crew cant do enough for you and the atmosphere aboard is great. The St Patricks night entertainment was fabulous and the Queens Room was busy, the folk duo Cula were outstanding. A well run and orderly ship , my compliments to the Captain , Officers and Crew...cant wait to be aboard again.
Everything to my satisfaction couldn’t ask for anything more. Perfect
Its a very good cruise that meets cunard's excellent service and overall standards.
We departed from Southampton on our Xmas Canary Islands cruise, embarking was reasonably straightforward, Covid testing was efficient however the instructions as to where our room card was and how to complete and register the watching of the safety film was inadequate and there were considerable numbers of guests summoned the following day to your muster station to confirm you had indeed watched the film. The crew on board were very attentive, food was good in the buffet and Britania Restaurant. The buffet was all served by crew but at times they needed more crew to avoid queuing. Shore excursions were expensive and underwhelming, disembarking was organised chaos. Guests were told the time they needed to be at the gangway, most seemed to ignore that requirement and as usual with Cunard guests there was a rapid growth in wheelchair users that were then pushed passed the queues to the front which held up the rest of us and caused chaos in the lifts. The queue was continuous snaking off the ship into the baggage area and there were insufficient different numbers for cases so it took a lot longer to find yours within your numbered group. We will not be cruising with Cunard in the future whilst Covid is around, we were disappointed that upon arrival at La Coruna , our penultimate port and a day after our "two day pre departure test" on board a fleet of seven ambulances arrived at the quay and removed positive tested guests. There were limited numbers of guests on board and a large number of sealed off staterooms, why couldn't the guests be made to isolate for the last 24 hours? By taking these guests off they then had to redo their Passenger locator form, ten day isolation in a hotel or hospital, fly back to Gatwick and then get to Southampton to collect their car. Not good service and not what we expected from Cunard.
A Cunard cruise at its best the crew were brilliant as was the ship the ambience of the wood panelling and all of the elegant touches you come to expect with Cunard, the food was great as was the entertainment with the outstanding one being the bootleg Beatles, the only downside was the weather which I am sorry to say was not good but I am sure if that was in Cunard's control they would have laid on the sun
The Food in main dining was excellent. Buffet was found lacking in some areas, I.e. not enough servers hence people helping themselves to food( not Covid protocol adherent), cold public bar areas, miserable looking waiters who never got to know your names after daily interactions over two weeks. Shops were never bustling with customers and not enough stock.( not a patch on P&O ships. Very expensive drinks plus gratuity charges.!
Wouldn’t be taking a Cunard cruise again.
The cruise was excellent, but, unfortunately, the weather was not.The first day of the cruise was spent in Southampton harbour because the weather was too bad for the pilot to board/disembark the ship. Once we did get underway, rough seas and high winds were still a problem. As a result of the delay, we did miss the first port of call, Lanzarote, and our first two stops were Fuerteventura and Tenerife. We went walking in Fuerteventura and in Tenerife went by local bus to Oratava, where it rained quite heavily. The passengers who stayed in Puerto de la Cruz fared much better. Madeira was next, where the weather finally was very good - hot and sunny and we visited gardens. The botanic gardens are well publicised, but the gardens of the Monte Palace are much more interesting and a must to visit. We went by local bus to Monte to see the basilica and the gardens. The bus ride itself was an experience. We then stopped at Gibraltar, which was also very sunny and went to Europa point and the lighthouse. The post cards which I sent from Gibraltar arrived much earlier than the ones from the Canaries and Madeira, so if your cruise calls in at Gib. send your cards from there. The last port of call was Cadiz where we did a ship's excursion to Medina Sidonia, Arcos de la Frontera and Jerez. A very good excursion and guide, but it did involve a lot of walking, After that, there was a gala night for my birthday (or possibly not) and back to Southampton. We were late back to Southampton as there had been a medical emergency on board which necessitated calling into port in the middle of the night. On board Queen Elizabeth the usual Cunard excellence and service was on view, except perhaps for dinner on the first night on board when everybody had been given the same time to arrive at the restaurant, and it was somewhat chaotic. Once in the restaurant, the food and service was excellent. For second sitting, there was an open dining arrangement which meant we sat with different people each night - a good way to meet other people. The entertainment on board was generally very good. The in-house troop of dancers and singers were among the best we have seen on board any ship. The other guest artists were of a more variable standard from very good to O.K. The best shows were those by the in-house troop and also by a very good husband and wife acrobatic duo. All in all, a very good cruise, despite the weather. I was only able to sunbathe on one day for about fifteen minutes.
The itinerary was changed after departure, without reason. The ship was unable to dock in Gibraltar, appartently because of high winds - this was very disappointing, because of there being few ports of call anyway. Food and entertainment were excellent. The layout of our Queens Grill Suite was disappointing, and the corridor outside looked more like a hospital corridor - white, with no decoration whatsoever.
This was a no stop sunshine cruise as part of Cunard recommencing services following Covid. We sailed the Bay of Biscay and cruises around in very nice weather and we generally enjoyed ourselves. We had to feel quite sorry for the staff on board as there was a much reduced capacity and you could tell as certain parts of the ship, especially at night, were quiet. However nothing could dampen our enthusiasm for being back on board and we all had a great time !
We loved our cruise and all aspects of it such a relief after lock dbown
