Fabulous time had, but let down on disembark badly, and letter to Cunard re this.
Having previously travelled on the Queen Elisabeth we thought we would try Queen Mary 2. We enjoyed the cruise despite one or two slight disappointments. We had originally booked a table for 6 but because of covid worries we changed it to a table for 2. This unfortunately meant we had to use freedom dining whereas we prefer to sit at them same table with the same waiters every day. We had to miss Sydney because of the hurricane and damage to the town itself. We particularly loved Boston and Halifax. New York immigration takes forever too and you have to get off and go through immigration even if you don’t want to visit New York. We did however and took the ferry ($4 per person) to Wall Street and walked to the 9/11 memorial. Allow plenty time for the ferry back. It can only take 150 passengers and we must have 154th in the queue so we had to wait for the next one. We were a bit disappointed with the layout of the ship compared with the QE. The queens room was awkward to get to. We loved the planetarium shows. I can’t comment on the theatre shows because we don’t bother with those though others we spoke to seemed to enjoy them. Overall a great cruise with the standard of service we expect from Cunard.
I loved this cruise. It is several years since we went on this ship and I found all the staff very much friendlier than before. The food was excellent, and we had a table for 2 without any problem. As it happened we had very pleasant people all around us, so it was very social and enjoyable. There were far more tables for 2 than usual- possibly because of Covid, but they were close together which was fine for chatting.
Our room was perfectly fine- we had an enclosed balcony. As it was very windy it was lovely to see out but no-one would want to sit out there.
Norway was very wet- in Bergen it bucketed down. In Tromso we did the Cathedral of the North with a 40minute concert which was superb. The cathedral guide had real humour and it was a trip I would recommend to anyone.
Trondheim was beautiful and the cathedral was well worth a look around. Also very warm, unlike our UK ones.
We missed going to Alesund and Stavanger because the weather was too rough. Being on QM2 we really didn't notice the swell, but the Captain decided we would go on to Belgium for safety.
From Zeebrugge many guests went to Bruges, but having been there before, we did a trip to see local villages and a chocolate shop. Our guide was a very enthusiastic ex-history teacher so we had a lengthy description of Belgium's royal family, politics etc which was for me over-long.
The entertainment on board was very good-some excellent speakers, and Michel Roux did a talk and a cookery show. The concert pianist was a joy to listen to, and Mike Doyle was very entertaining.
The pavilion pool was variable in temperature, but mostly fine.
I loved everything about this cruise. Even disembarking this morning was hassle-free.
This was our first taste of cruising, and it was an excellent introduction to enjoying life on board.
We picked up the boat in Rome as part of a tour. It was the perfect end to an amazing holiday. There was only one stop at Lisbon, where we opted to stay on board. Having a fantastic view of Lisbon from our balcony was a bonus for us to enjoy.
We look forward to our next cruise with anticipation.
As far as I am concerned I regard this ship as a second home simply because of the wonderful service of the crew quite exceptional
So, well done Cunard & great to be back on board doing what we all love.
Following the extended no go on travel, confidence is burgeoning with cruise lines welcoming guests once again.
The QM2 maintains high standards - especially from its 5 star teams on the front line. Since taking an extended World Voyage with the company in 2020, to return to this ship you can't help but notice that some aspects of the product aren't fully up to speed, though. Understandable, given the current global recruitment & economic turmoil, so as time moves on we should see 5 stars for every aspect of the product.
Queen Anne joins the fleet in '24 & with 2025 itineraries imminent, we can all look forward to sharing those wonderful cruise experiences which we all so deserve.
Until the next time.
Disappointed with QM2 after cruising on Queen Elizabeth. Found it tatty and dated especially the atrium. Also very disappointed with the Veranda restaurant. Instead of sea views we watched a rather large lady get out of the swimming pool, dry herself and then cream her feet for 20 minutes. Also food wasn't as good as same restaurant on Queen Elizabeth. Trying Queen Victoria next month!
An amazing cruise taken for the last 10 years going from Southampton to New York. Which is not included in your drop down box. Maybe because I was told it is a crossing not a cruise so ticker South America which was nearest choice to the one I took
just great lovely people friendly crew etc
Wonderful cruise dining staff were amazing. Very very disappointed with the internet. Was quite frustrating especially as we needed internet access to complete paperwork to return to work uk. Help desk was not so helpful. Also disappointed with the pool it was rather small
Wonderful time visiting Norway. Food and staff excellent. Ship a little tired but still had a fantastic holiday.
Everyone should take at least one ocean liner cruise on the Queen Mary II, a wonderful experience of low key luxury and pampering in a posh environment. We had rough March seas crossing the Atlantic and you could hardly feel the ship rocking, but the sight of the waves out the windows was thrilling. The staff will spoil you, the food is outstanding, even in the buffet, and room service is so indulgent in the morning you will hate to leave the ship. I looked forward to this trip for years, and will be back on the QM2 soon.
Care from an outstanding crew was unbelievable as always I don’t have enough words to describe such professionalism
transatlantic crossing with london theatre at sea it was fabulous
