Ventura is very dark, tired and old fashioned inside the ship. It’s also cold, particularly in Metropolis making it not an enjoyable place. Unfortunately this was the only quiet sophisticated bar, everywhere else was crowded and loud. The cabin was ok but so dated and drawer handles were loose and surfaces stained etc. All ports were lovely but Lisbon was so busy and I would much prefer one day there and an additional port elsewhere. Quiz entertainers were awful, no banter and quite into themselves rather than the passengers enjoying it. The Pursuit was particularly awful and cringeworthy. Comedians, guest speakers and dancers were excellent. Food was excellent. Waiting staff were amazing work so so hard! Unfortunately this wasn’t the ship for me due to being dark, cold and crowded.
Ship and service was fine but disappointed with the local services and facilities
The embarkation was very good - had to have our Covid test before we could board but then went smoother than previous times. Ventura was less than half full due to cancellations because we were not allowed to go to the USA - alternative islands were good. The wearing of masks on board was a bit of a bind at times but it meant that no-one caught Covid although two artists were put into isolation when they boarded. The ship was clean and the staff were wonderful. Excursions were well thought out and varied. Overall it was a lovely cruise.
Considering this is an older ship, the overall condition was good. Food needs some improvement. But enjoyable experiance.
It was our first one.
Minor negative point - the size and choice of the buffet - not up to modern standards or suitable for the number of passengers on a full ship. Food in tge buffet was good quality though.
Positives:
- Main dining rooms - good breakfast and good quality evening meals (although very UK-centric).
- Plenty of bars and lounges with lots of comfortable seating - despite the 3000+ passengers embarked you could always find somewhere to sit.
- Not an issue for us but good to see excellent access/mobility considerations.
- Deluxe balcony room was huge - and accommodated 3 adults perfectly. Yes the bathroom sink was a bit tired but everything was spotless and worked well. Beds (including sofa bed) very comfortable.
- Ship interior is in good condition throughout (compared to certain other "older" ships of other lines) - no evidence of wear and tear/age.
- Decent variety and quality of activities and entertainment.
- Reasonable drinks prices.
Overall - we enjoyed our time on Ventura, good value for money, and our daughter enjoyed her first cruise experience. We would be happy to book another Ventura cruise.
This cruise was all that I thought it would be and more
Absolutely loved it
Excellent crew and entertainment on board only spoiled by the hoards of rude taxi drivers hanging about outside all the ports. The destination although described as dream destinations were very disapointing
Cruise to Madeira and The Canaries with P&O.
Third time on Ventura. Fabulous. First time to Madeira and The Canaries, loved it! Would definitely go again. Loved cruising with P&O, was my 5th cruise. Got 2 more booked!
Ventura is tired and due a refit in my opinion.
P&O need to work on the disembark for disabled people, there were two of us using wheelchairs and the disembarking took over 2 hours .
P&O need to look at height of chairs as being disabled it is very difficult to get up from chairs if they are too low.
Our cruise was actually the Canaries and was very comfortable. It was our first cruise so we did not know how it was going to be but we were very surprised on how we enjoyed it. We had a cabin with a veranda. the cruise was very calm until we were on our way back to UK when we hit a storm but found the ship very stable considering we were under the top deck where the furniture was getting thrown about. The staff were very helpful and gave us a lot of advice. Because the cruise was so good and helpful, we had booked again for the following year but dew to COVID it was cancelled, but we are going again on 2nd October this year (2022) on the Britannia to the Mediterranean and hopefully it is going to be as good if not better.
Although I have put down our travel dates, I am not sure exactly, but it must near enough.
