Fantastic short break to Amsterdam. Check in was seamless, disembarking was delayed due to other vessels and caused some disruption. Ship was absolutely fine, but a bit dated re decor when compared to their new ship Iona. Ultimately it was about the destination rather than the ship, we spent most of cruise on shore! Service was good throughout in particular the Olive Grove.
Following a difficult couple of years it was clear that ship and crew were trying their best to ensure all guests had a wonderful cruise. The embarkation process was a tad difficult due to testing which was carried out by an independent company who were very disorganised. Apart from that, I cannot fault the service, food ( which was extremely good) or entertainment. We didn’t take part in shore excursions however reports from other guests were great and they said good value for money with expert guides. We particularly liked the conversations given by the bridge crew over the PA system (due to covid restrictions) which were informative and entertaining and we awaited these each day! The guest services staff did their best to solve the daily issues that arise with mixed success, however the waiting and cabin staff were excellent, smiling all the time behind their compulsory face masks. We would return to Ventura with P and O without a doubt.
Had a fabulous cruise on Ventura to Madeira & The Canaries. Been on Ventura twice before and things obviously changed since Covid. Still had a great time. Food was really good, lots of choice. Entertainment was good, saw a few shows in the theatre. Had fantastic weather which was a bonus.
Overall, a great cruise making very happy memories.
This was one of the better cruise ever. Bearing in mind Covid restrictions. The company.
had taken great care in ensuring passenger and staff safety. Food, entertainment, destinations, all perfect,
Excellant value for money. Great cruise.
A real 'curate's egg' of a cruise.
Standards of service and food (particularly the buffet) have slipped badly and the Ventura is looking tired. Embarkation at Southampton was a nightmare and parking and the queues to go through the boarding process took forever - as always we seem to make a meal of Covid even when everyone has tested negative!
The positive point was that the main entertainment in the theatre was excellent - probably the best I have seen on any cruise ship.
Both trips I did were also very good - whale watching in Tenerife and the Tuk Tuk in Lisbon.
So overall I enjoyed the cruise but P&O need to improve and get back to earlier levels of service and do a much better job with the buffet quality and variety.
Very enjoyable ,I took my daughter and grandson who looked after me when my partner died , they had never been on a cruise they were amazed and delighted, all the different places they visited the food onboard, the facilities ,swimming every morning, the gymn ,the entertainment, they were both ,overwhelmed. A holliday they will always remember, their words, thank you for a very happy holliday, and we have lots of lovely photos
Having to wait for the results of the Covid testing were annoying, mine took nearly an hour of not knowing if I was going to get on board or not, after travelling all the way down to Southampton. Muster drill was a doddle. We had to fill in some documentation for our visit to Lisbon which upon our arrival seemed like a waste of time because no one was interested in the message we had sent back to us, certainly not the Portuguese authorities. Almost all of the crew were friendly, two of the stewards were not; our steward, Jason, was very helpful. Food and service was very good, except for one night when we seemed to wait for ages between each course. we had a good leisurely week, did our own thing in the ports we stopped at. As usual the shops aboard the ship had ridiculous prices and neither of us were impressed by the artwork for sale.
On the whole though we had a good holiday.
If I could give 6 stars for service I would…..the staff work so hard and are so helpful and wear their masks diligently.
Embarkation was easy, although it seemed busy we kept moving. Food in MDR was very good and felt there was still plenty of choice/variety although the menu slightly reduced from pre covid. Buffet also very good. Cabin clean and I really hope turn down service doesnt return……not necessary and staff better used elsewhere…..or maybe even reduce their hours!
Entertainment very good but we couldnt book the theatre for second week on the “app” so decided to take it as a sign and as more people started coughing as the cruise went on, we were glad we avoided it and managed to avoid Covid.
Tours were good too. At first, felt wearing a mask on all coaches was a nuisance, but appreciated it was for the best and glad it was mandatory.
P&O “app” worked mostly for booking evening meals in the main dining room but we didnt always get buzzed……we just made our way to the dining room & queued. There were 2 split desks to check in at the dining room entrance….one for “buzzed” and one for “walk ups” but people seemed to use either so still ended up queuing!
Thank you P&O for a great cruise (although build up not as enjoyable as usual because of covid testing the day before….now that was stressful!)
Best holiday I have been on can't believe I had not done this before. If you are debating about going don't hesitate go for it you will not be disappointed.
We felt the ship was a little tiered and needed some TLC (I believe it is due to go for a refit soon). The food was not up to the standard we have come to expect on a cruise, however I think there was a definite lack of staff which may explain this. All the staff on board were excellent and couldn’t do enough for you. We enjoyed ourselves very much.
There getting there
Only staff wearing masks, no other Covid protocols on board. Have to pay for room service so even when you have been ashore on ship excursion you have to go to self service cafe, half of which was always closed!
No face cloths, hair conditioner or body lotion supplied in cabins. No turndown service to cabins. Only one-small restaurant open for breakfast or lunch so long queues. Even if you use app to join virtual queues.
Shore excursions were good. We enjoyed the ones we had picked.
Theatre shows were very good.
Thought we were on a cheap cruise line not a normally respected one.
Las Palmas cancelled. Lanzerote put in place but did not get there due to a medical issue on ship.
