Introducing Oceania Sonata

Oceania Sonata is set to debut in August 2027 as the first vessel in Oceania Cruises' new Sonata Class. While Oceania Cruises' existing ships are already known for their small-ship scale and culinary focus, Oceania Sonata represents a step into a larger, more spacious design.

The ship will carry 1,390 guests, supported by 855 crew, maintaining the line's emphasis on attentive service while introducing a higher proportion of suite accommodation than before. In total, around a third of all accommodation will be suites, reflecting a shift towards more space and premium categories across the ship.

Oceania Cruises has positioned Oceania Sonata as an evolution rather than a reinvention, with familiar hallmarks such as destination-focused itineraries and restaurant-driven onboard life remaining at the core of the experience.

Oceania Sonata will be followed by three more ships in the Sonata class: Oceania Arietta, planned to launch in 2029; and two further ships scheduled to launch in 2032 and 2035, and yet to be named.

What restaurants and bars are there on Oceania Sonata?

Dining remains one of Oceania Cruises' defining features, and Oceania Sonata will continue that restaurant-led approach. Oceania Sonata will feature ten best-in-class culinary experiences, blending guest favourites with innovative new concepts.

The ship will debut two all-new culinary concepts:

La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France

A fine-dining experience seating 18 guests, La Table comes with a seal of approval from the Maîtres Cuisiniers de France (Master Chefs of France), a globally revered institution dedicated to promoting the French culinary arts.

The restaurant will offer a rotation of exquisite menus and Oceania Cruises' Dom Pérignon Experience, a six-course tasting menu paired with vintage Champagnes.

Nikkei Kitchen

This evening-only venue focuses on a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese techniques and flavours.

What is the accommodation like on Oceania Sonata?

Oceania Cruises has confirmed that about a third of the ship's accommodation will be suites, increasing both the number and range of premium categories available.
At the top end are the Owner's Suites: four residences of more than 2,500 square feet, positioned at the aft corners of Decks 10 and 11. These suites introduce a two-bedroom layout, with expansive wraparound verandas.

The ship will also feature eight Vista Suites (1,500–1,900 square feet), designed around large verandas and generous living and dining space, and 16 newly reimagined Oceania Suites (1,000–1,400 square feet), which balance size with a more streamlined layout.

There are new suite categories, too. The Horizon Suite offers more than 600 square feet, and the Penhouse Deluxe Suites offer between 426 and 488 square feet.

Beyond suites, Oceania Sonata will also include a range of staterooms. Each suite and stateroom will have a private and spacious veranda, luxury Tranquility Beds and Aquamar bath amenities.

The suites will also include dedicated butler service, and higher categories will feature in-suite Illy coffee machines.

What is the entertainment like on Oceania Sonata?

Instead of large arena shows, Oceania Cruises ships typically focus on live music, lounge performances, enrichment talks and cultural programming that complements the itinerary.

Guests can brush up on their cookery skills at The Culinary Center, unleash their creativity at the Artist Loft, listen to fascinating talks from guest speakers, or enjoy show thrilling productions or performances from world-class vocalists and musicians at the Sonata Lounge.

What destinations is Oceania Sonata sailing to?

Oceania Sonata's inaugural season features 22 sailings from August 2027 through April 2028.

The maiden voyage will depart Rome (Civitavecchia) on August 7, 2027, on a 14-day Mediterranean Collage sailing to Trieste.

Oceania Sonata's inaugural season will continue in the Mediterranean and Europe, before taking the ship across the Atlantic to Miami for a mix of Caribbean sailings and voyages to or from Los Angeles via the Panama Canal.

Oceania Sonata will then return to the Mediterranean in March 2028. Further-ahead deployment has not yet been confirmed.

Embarkation was the easiest and fastest we have ever experienced. The ship is beautiful. It is light and spacious and full of gorgeous artefacts. Our concierge balcony cabin was spacious and very comfortable, although it would have been improved by better drawer space. The bathroom was probably the most elegant we have had. The balcony itself was very spacious but lacked high backed furniture or footstools. There were two bucket type chairs and a small table -such a waste of such a lovely space. All crew members that we came in contact with were delightful, from room stewards to restaurant staff and the boys who saw us safely on and off the tenders. The young Cruise Director was brilliant and the entertainment extremely good. The food in all the restaurants was excellent. We normally avoid the Buffet on cruises because we hate the fight for tables and the scrummage around the service stations. This wasn't a problem at all on Vista and we ended up enjoying every breakfast and an occasional lunch there.

Quite a while since we sailed with Cunard but it felt immediately like going home. Cunard is our favourite cruise line and I (think) this cruise was our 14th with them. We had a very nice cabin on deck 1 which is our favourite deck. The food, service and entertainment were very good. We visited Spain and Portugal which we have done before. It was nice to be on board so near Christmas as it was very festive just like when we were on the Queen Elizabeth a few years ago. I am looking forward to joining Cunard again this year on one of their ships - maybe the Queen Anne!

We always book the Owners suite so the level of accommodation is superb and once again didnt disappoint . The excursion in Bordeaux was overpriced and a big let down but overall another enjoyable cruise with Oceania.
