First cruise post covid . The ship was immaculate, staff friendly and attentive, Captain was great, restored our trust in cruising again. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.
Wanted a cheap ish week away and this proved perfect..
The only downside was entertainment in the evenings .
It’s a smaller ship than we were used to but still enjoyable
The ship was clean and well kept. There were sometimes problems with the lifts - often one or two would be out of order. This could make it take a while to queue at busy times.
The Lou gets on the pool decks were frequently all ‘reserved’ with towels by mid-morning and it was very difficult to find any. These were often left unoccupied for hours at a time, and the staff weren’t very proactive in removing the towels and ensuring guests could use the loungers.
The food on board was generally good, although portions sizes were random and often mean. One night I choose gnocchi as a main course and got a large dish with 7 pieces in - as a starter it would’ve been fine, but as a main it was ridiculous. Another night a friend had steak and chips… 5 chips!
The main problem with dinner was that the booking system is simply not workable, especially when the ships are busy. On the ‘gala evening’ it was chaos - people were waiting hours for tables, and families were stood in the queue with increasingly tired and upset young children. The staff then started to try to close the doors saying service stopped at 9pm… the long queue of waiting guests were understandably unimpressed - I’d been waiting since 7:30, and some had been queuing for over 2hrs. It needs sorting asap because freedom dining is a great idea, they just need to be able to make it work so that guests actually get fed at a reasonable time.
The spa was not very good value and I’d not bother again if I cruised p&o. I went for a shellac manicure on the first afternoon, and had to return twice to have it fixed as it kept lifting which was frustrating and time consuming. The hair services were also average at best - slow and short lived results. They used so much product that by the evening the cut and blow dry had become greasy and limp, and by the next morning I had to re wash it. I expect a good blow dry to last at least a couple of days. The actual spa and salon itself was also much less luxurious than the ones I’ve used on other ships. I’ve had much better at sea spa experiences on other lines and wouldn’t use this one again.
In terms of value for money, I can’t fault it. I paid a fraction of what some guests had by booking as a late deal. Had I paid full fare I’d be much less impressed, but for
Overall this was a good trip and Azura is a nice ship, though she is beginning to look a little tired and in need of a face lift. Most of the ports were interesting and worth visiting, although we felt that Taranto in Italy was somewhat disappointing, with little in the way of charm or interest and left us a bit underwhelmed.
The quality of the food was generally very good, although the buffet at lunchtime did vary a little.
The staff overall were excellent, polite, attentive and lovely. We did feel that the entertainment crew were less impressive, being most notable by their absence during the day and their tendency to sit together and whoop noisily when their colleagues were working. The entertainment director was a mystery, only appearing via announcements as a disembodied voice. I really couldn’t pick him out of a lineup, which is unusual, as generally speaking they are very visible.
We had a very nice cruise but Azura a bit dated
This was our first cruise after pandemic. We were a little nervous being around so many people. Flights were with Jet2, i felt i had to book seats as i need an isle seat for a mobility issue. Extortionate price charged by P &O!
Arrival in Tenerife was a bit of a fiasco, no P & O staff at the airport to give us any direction, TUI Reps advised us where to go.
Once at the port everything went very smoothly and cases were delivered to our cabin timely.
The cabin was fine a little tired in places but very clean. The cabin steward Monica was wonderful.
Dining in the buffet restaurant was to be avoided. People were not cleaning hands despite staff members observing and handing out trays and cutlery. it was only open one side and far too many people in the area. No seats, table clearing very slow. The food was very good in the main restaurant. The only downside being we requested a table of 6, most of the time especially the 2nd week there were just the 2 of us sat on a table for 8. Not conducive to a pleasant dining experience
Sunbeds were reserved and not used a lot of the time causing conflict. Nothing was done by staff members. Entertainment was pretty good most of the time although the air conditioning was fierce making some of the bars empty, far too cold to sit and watch the artists, many people were complaining. We did not take any organised tours, they were all easily manageable under our own steam.
All in all i think the staff all worked exceptionally hard, yes cruising has changed since the pandemic but everything has changed. We enjoyed our cruise once we decided ourselves not to use the buffet at all and chose the warmer venues. We will certainly be sailing with P & O again in the near future.
Absolutely beautiful and wonderful trip
this was my first cruise and I must say that I am hooked, I love it
I was travelling as a solo passenger. We stopped at Madeira and all of the Canary Islands after having flown into Tenerife.
14 days of heaven, relaxing in the sun, fabulous food lots of good company and the entertainment was excellent. It did rain but mostly at night and it was hotter than Perth in Australia!
I travelled with Assisted Passenger Service which was amazing.
ship looking a little tired .everyone seemed to struggle with having to use your phone to book everything including the theatre
Great staff and service.Nice clean cabins a nd public areas. Varied entertainm.ent.
Our first cruise since Covid. We got a good deal, and lots of onboard credit which helped with our drinks and speciality restaurants. We enjoyed the routing, which gave plenty of time to visit ports of call - especially with the overnights in Tenerife which meant we could see the Christmas lights.
Our cabin was great, on B deck, right at the back of the ship. I was concerned it may be noisy, it it was fantastic with a big balcony, not overlooked at all.
We got the wine package which we enjoyed. One criticism is that this package seems to be linked to the dining room, so if you wanted wine anywhere else on the ship, someone had to go and get it. I couldn’t see why they could have had small stocks in different bars or restaurants.
The speciality dining was excellent, especially the Epicurian.
The dining room food was excellent and we had no complaints. There was the odd occasion when service could have been faster, but I think a lot of the staff are new.
I wouldn’t hesitate to return to the Azura.
