Nieuw Amsterdam is a medium-sized ocean premium ship operated by Holland America Line, which launched in 2010 and was last refitted in 2023. It has capacity for 2,106 guests across 1,053 cabins with 929 crew members on hand to help.
This size allows for a variety of onboard experiences while maintaining a sense of space around the ship. Nieuw Amsterdam is an option for families with children.
There's nine restaurants and eating venues on board, with four complimentary venues and five available for a supplement. The ship also features 11 bars and lounges.

Amenities vary across the tiers, with higher-category cabins including a generous array of extra perks. But across the board, you'll still experience the signature Holland America Line approach to quality and service.
There wasn't enough food options in terms of places to eat and variety of food. In the main dining room, I found hair in my food and my orders kept getting messed up (Steak not cooked to request, sides wrong). One night I waited 45mins for a pizza, was presented with a pizza I didn't order only to be told that they mistakenly gave my pizza away and asked if I wanted to wait on another one. Room service was horrible! One night we ordered food at 11pm and it didn't arrive until 3am. The staff wasn't friendly at all. Nobody ever greeted us. That's just some of the issues. Needless to say I was unimpressed and will not be travelling Holland America Line again.
Elegant and spacious, Volendam takes her décor cues from the garden. Her grand public spaces are graced with floral fabrics and tapestries, as well as huge vases of fresh floral arrangements.
Designed to carry fewer guests while offering greater space, Zaandam is elegant and comfortable. Her décor is inspired by music and features musical instruments including signed guitars from Queen, Iggy Pop, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones and a Baroque-style pipe organ.
