Have sailed on many lines and have happy memories of the Sky Princess in 2022. Booked Penthouse suite and for the very high price we paid, it was definitely not a premium experience.
Firstly there was no separate line for Suite guests and we queued for 1.5 hours to get on the ship. The suite was quite dark, with no premium toiletries, just the regular refillable pump dispenser for shower gel and a Shampoo/conditioner combined. No amenity kit, cotton wool pads, buds, etc. not even a pen and paper by the phone.
The Emerald is very tired by comparison to the Sky. I normally book for itinerary but will also factor in ship a close second in future.
Suite guests had breakfast in the speciality Italian restaurant which was really nice, but on port days there was nowhere to go apart from the buffet. Would have been nicer to have somewhere to sit and be served, rather than tackle the buffet and the hunt for a seat. Celebity Apex last year had a much better Suite offering, designated restaurant and Retreat area and lounge. Also Sky had a lounge with concierge for suites, but Emerald had only a gathering for 2 hours a day in the Obs lounge, if you had any questions it was off to the customer services desk.
A small note about the entertainment staff, who were lovely, but why did they put the staff for those English is not their first language on the Trivia!! As they struggled to pronounce or even understand the questions they had obviously not seen before. The music quizzes were done by 2/3 different people and the duplication of songs became a standing joke.
We still had a nice time and met some lovely people but it has certainly put us off Princess.
No fly cruise - embarked at Southampton, stopped in Falmouth, Cobh, Qaqortoq snf Nanortalik (Greenland) and Rekjavik and Grundafjodur (Iceland) before returning to Southampton. First time on Emerald Princess which holds 3000 passengers and it was totally full. Nice ship on the whole but one of the older ones in the Princess Fleet. We went on Skye Princess last year to the Baltics and it has better facilities and more room. The food was generally good, Dabatini's Italian restaurant is excellent (although you have to pay a supplement). Really good burger bar and pizza takeaway on the pool deck. Pools are a bit on the small side especially when there are a lot of children on board. We usually have a suite but couldn't get one for this cruise so opted for a mini-suite which was smaller but fine for our needs. Unfortunately we were taken ill with Flu on the ship in the 2nd week, but were well looked after by the medical team. The wait for the water shuttles to and from Qaqortoq in Greenland was almost 3 hours, which spoilt the shore experience somewhat However it was not the fault of Princess who had several water shuttles available to transport passengers, it was the authorities in Greenland only allowing one water shuttle to load or unload at once. Hence a long wait as there were over 2000 people going ashore. The Greenland authorities need to decide whether they want tourists and their revenue or not (they don't appear to!) If they do they need to provide appropriate infrastructure and facilities. The scenery in Prince Christian Sund was amazing.
Embarkation was seamless and the welcome on board delightful. The food was excellent and the entertainment was also very good. The general atmosphere on board was very friendly and the attentive service was welcome.
Fabulous week on board the Emerald Princess where we were spoilt rotten by the grandeur of the ship, delicious food (lots of choice) and great entertainment.
Really enjoyed seeing the fjords as well as exploring the likes of Stavanger, Bergen and Olden.
Some excursions we organised ourselves - such as a visit to the stunning Briksdal Glacier.
Additionally, the Emerald Princess offered an extensive range of land excursions which included cycling and llama walking; my daughter and I loved both of these!
Highly recommend Princess Cruises and specifically a Norwegian Fjord cruise!
As a solo traveller having been on Sky Princess, Emerald Princess, Hurtigruten, Fred Olsen and Marella, Princess was good value for money (EVEN having to pay almost double as a solo AS SADLY USUAL !!!) the staff were wonderful, could not do enough for me ...laundry service expensive, but good option to pay for your own (which I did) entertainment first class. Restuarants not very accommodating for a solo ...whereas I could ask to share table for dinner, a lot of people said NO they would not be willing to share ! those who did were all lovely but on the last night no one wanted to !... cleanliness was lovey and lots to do on sea days. Land excursions were really interesting with the ability to book a tour from the ship, or go it alone if you wished. Panama canal really interesting, and on board lectures about the places we were visiting the next day, as well as afternoon lectures if you wished on various subjects. Line dancing lessons and salsa lessons available and other activities. Shame I could not join the quizzes as a solo 'team' .......but no cruise line is really wanting solo travellers I find !
First time using Princess and we thought it was great. Loved the app for ordering drinks anywhere on the ship. Staff was lovely and the food amazing. Ship looked a little tired and dated in places but didn’t spoil our trip.

This was our first cruise since Covid lockdown so we were looking forward to the cruise to the Canaries on Emerald Princess and hoped the experience was as good as it had been previously and I am pleased to say it was. The medallion was something new but we quickly got the hang of it. The meals were good in both the dining room and the buffet so we didn't find the need to eat in the specialty restaurants. We had the drinks package which included tips and Wi Fi too and that was definitely worth having. Our balcony cabin was kept clean and tidy and although this ship isn't new it was in good condition. The entertainment was good but we found that if you didn't get to the theatre early then all seats were taken. Excellent service from the staff.
Great cruise including full transit through the Panama Canal. Embarking in Los Angeles and visiting ports in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia before disembarking in Fort Lauderdale. The ports of call were all very interesting and the transit through the canal was enhanced by a superb running commentary by an on board speaker who grew up in Panama and was a huge source of fascinating information. The ship had very good facilities but the service was a little underwhelming at times - not as good as when we were onboard a few months earlier. We ate mainly in the buffet which had a good range of dishes but was not able to cope too well with my lactose free diet and only had a limited range of gluten free options too. We took Princess shore excursions but wouldn't do so again as they were not very well organised and concentrated on taking you to retail outlets rather than exploring the area. However we still enjoyed the cruise despite these few niggles and would consider cruising on this ship again.
